Known for a soulful baritone that's been compared to Johnny Hartman and Mel Tormé, Harlem-based jazz vocalist Kaushik (rhymes with "caustic") brings a special interpretation to the jazz canon. Kaushik grew up in India, where he studied Indian classical music and led the fusion band Pakoda. For the last decade, he has immersed himself in jazz, having studied with contemporary greats like Fay Victor and Emily Braden in New York. Kaushik approaches classic tunes with a fresh perspective, adding original lyrics to instrumental standards and adding a tinge of Indian raga to jazz harmonies. He has performed to acclaim at the annual John Coltrane Jazz Festival in New York, as the lead singer of the Notre Dame Big Band, twice as the Jazz WaHi featured vocalist, and at various New York area venues like The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Room 623, Brvsh Culture, Swing 46, and more.
